Our work began through the discipline of chemical ecology, the study of how living things communicate through scent.

Our founder was fascinated by the idea that every plant, animal, and human constantly emits invisible chemical signals that carry rich information about who we are, how we feel, and even whether we’re healthy. Nature, it turned out, was already talking. We just hadn’t learned how to listen.

Professors James Logan and Mary Cameron, began as world leading academic experts in chemical ecology, exploring the how insects use odour in their everyday lives. This led to groundbreaking discoveries, including the smell of malaria and COVID, as well as bed bug pheromones and mosquito attractants.

Together they demonstrated how decoding and replicating chemical signals could provide novel ways to detect disease, and attract, repel, or monitor insects in ways that could transform disease and pest control.

The challenge wasn’t just biological, it was also about data.

During outbreaks, critical information on insect vectors, pathogens, and disease patterns was scattered across regions, fragmented, and inaccessible to those who needed it most.

James responded by founding the Global Vector Hub, a world-first digital platform that unified data to accelerate research and improve preparedness. It was a turning point, proof that combining biology and data science could transform how we understand and respond to health threats.

At the heart of dot lies dot.core™ our proprietary intelligence engine that converts raw biological data into insight and foresight. It captures, organises, and analyses complex information from scent signatures, sensor data, laboratory studies, and field trials to uncover patterns that can predict risks and opportunities before they emerge.

dot.core™

Through dot.core™, we’re building a digital ecosystem that connects the biological and digital worlds, enabling faster discovery, smarter validation, and more sustainable decision-making across sectors such as:

Human Health
Human Health

We transform disease prediction and prevention from scent-based diagnostics to intelligent surveillance systems that detect health risks earlier and more accurately.

Animal Health
Animal Health

We support veterinarians, livestock producers, and pet owners with odour-driven diagnostics, early-warning systems, and tools that help safeguard animal welfare and biosecurity.

Plant Health
Plant Health

We empower growers with intelligent sensing technologies and early detection tools that identify pests, pathogens, and crop stress before damage occurs, reducing losses and chemical use.

Environmental Health
Environmental Health

We monitor ecological signals, pest pressures, and environmental changes at scale. Helping cities, organisations, and governments respond proactively to emerging threats.

The ambition is bold, to build the world’s first global odour intelligence platform.

Just as weather satellites track atmospheric changes to forecast storms, dot’s technologies aim to track biological and chemical signals to forecast health and environmental risks.

For James and the team, dot is more than a company, it’s a movement toward living smarter in a changing world.

COVID-19 showed how fragile our health systems can be and how much individuals want control over their own wellbeing. People now monitor their sleep, heart rate, and stress but what if your smartwatch could tell you when you’re unwell, before you even feel it? dot’s devices and technology aim to make that future possible.

The same principles extend to our food systems, our pets, and our planet. Our technology has the potential to empower farmers to act before an outbreak spreads. To help veterinarians and public health teams detect disease before it harms. Give organisations the insight to innovate faster, more responsibly, and with confidence. When we can sense change early, through scent data and intelligent systems, we can protect what matters most.

What makes dot so extraordinary is not just its technology, but its visionary fusion of disciplines.

No other company combines the sensitivity of insects, the precision of chemistry, the reasoning of AI, and the empathy of human-centred design.

It’s a story of convergence: of academia and industry, of nature and machine, of science and society.

For the first time, we are capturing the hidden dimension of scent, something that’s existed since the beginning of time, and transforming it into digital intelligence.

This breakthrough opens new possibilities for disease surveillance, sustainable agriculture, animal welfare, and even climate resilience. By turning scent into data, and data into insight, dot is unlocking the invisible patterns that shape our world.

Our vision is simple yet transformative: to transform the prediction and prevention of disease, delivering a safer future for people and planet.

Purpose comes first. We are scientists and engineers. But above all, we are problem-solvers who believe in the power of science to serve society.

The next era is about scale, connection and collaboration. Dot’s technologies are exploring across sectors and continents, building a global odour intelligence network powered by dot.core™.

This network will inform everything, how farmers manage pests, how clinicians detect disease, and how cities monitor environmental health.

dot will become an essential layer of global intelligence connecting data from organisms, sensors, and systems into a single living network of insight.

We believe this is more than innovation, it’s evolution. And like the natural systems that inspire us, dot will continue to adapt, learn, and grow, helping humanity live smarter, safer, and more sustainably in a world of constant change.

The future is living smarter, and it begins here.
